2022 Austrian GP Review

The Redbull ring often offers interesting races, with a lot of actions.
This weekend, we had a special format. Qualifying on Friday, sprint race on Saturday and the long race on Sunday.
This track is of course the home race for RedBull, and the orange army always comes with a lot of their lion's fans.
Qualifying
In Q1, a lot of tracks limits hadn't been respected especially by the Aston Martins. Daniel is again eliminated in the first part of the quali. It seems than the car is undrivable as much for Lando than for the Aussie. So eliminated in Q1, the two Astons, Zhou, Ricciardo and Latifi.
Alex Albon passed in Q2 and even did a good result with a wonderful P11. Checo passed in Q3 but after the session, his last lap in Q2 had been deleted due to tracks limits, he finally start P13 for the sprint race.
On Lando's side, one lap he had brakes, the other one he hadn't. Because of this, he didn't do a fast laps in Q2 and finished P15. Yuki went wide so didn't pass in the next phase.
And Valtteri qualified P12 with his Alfa Roméo.
Both Haas went in Q3, while Pierre couldn't do the Q3 due to the stewards decision to investigate Checo incident after the session.
The last part of the qualifying had been eventful.
The two Mercedes crashed into the wall while their drivers were pushing for their fast laps. The red flag due to George's crash let to the others drivers to do a final fast lap.
Even if he was slower than his faster time in the first two sectors, Max took the pole position in front of Charles and Carlos. Russell complete the second row.
Sprint Race
From the start of race, there has been action.
At the first formation lap, Fernando Alonso stayed on the grid. The blanket was still on the blanket, because the team was trying to resolve a problem on the car. What has been impossible, he has even abandoned without doing a lap. Electronic issue.
At the end of this lap, Zhou's engine cut before restarting. That caused an other formation lap.
At the start, Pierre had been crashed into by Lewis, he spun out but hadn't damage so he managed to continue the race.
Carlos passed Charles at the first corner, because the Monegasque had been blocked by Max in the straight but after a rude battle between the two Ferrari, Leclerc passed his teammate and stayed at the front until the end of the race.
At the same time, Checo was doing a remontada, he finished 5th and will start from that place tomorrow.
Fighting with Lando, Alex Albon received a five seconds penalty because he pushed the Brit out the track. And a few laps later, he had a contact with Sebastian Vettel who spun into the gravel but managed to go out.
We also had an amazing battle between Mick and Lewis that lasted several laps. Thanks to his braking and the DRS, Schumacher managed to block the 7th time world champion behind him until he lost the one second gap with his teammate. He finished out of the points because of this while Kevin Magnussen brought two points to the team.
And in the last lap, Sebastian retired his car probably to have the possibility to change some pieces before the race on the newt day.
However, Schumacher, Russell, Ocon, Pérez, Stroll and Vettel had been under investigation because they received messages from they engineer in the second formation laps, last time it happened (Hungary 2020) both Haas driver had a 10 seconds penalty.
Race
A hot start at the front, Max stayed in front of Charles while just behind, Carlos didn't do a good start. George benefited of this to try to pass him and thanks to that Checo got involved in the fight.
But a few corners later, the Mexican got touch by the Brit, broke some aerodynamics pieces and caused a new pit. Due to this contact, George got five seconds penalty but it didn't stop him to take the P4.
Mick was on fire, an overtake on Lewis at the start of the race, then he had been involved in some other like at the lap 34, on his teammate or later Stroll.
We had also an amazing battle between Max and Charles that resulted by Charles passing Max on the 12nd lap.
Lewis did a wonderful race too, he overtook the two Haas on the 15th lap and finished on the 3rd step of the podium.
We could see some astonishing battle, between the two Alpine and Zhou or also the one with 5 cars implicated. (Kevin, Lando, Fernando, Mick and Guanyu).
The tracks limits were not really respected, two penalties had been given, one for Lando, the other for Pierre as well as a lot of black and white flags (Lewis, Carlos, Zhou,..)
Because of the pit stops, Charles was again behind Max but had succeeded to pass him again on the lap 33.
After a contact with Pierre that cost him five seconds penalty once more, Sebastian finished into the gravel.
On Lando's side, he did a good race too ! Coming back to the P7, after doing many overtakes, on KMag, Yuki,...
The two Ferrari went into the pit again, a few laps after Max, on the laps 50 and 51.
Nicholas abandoned while Max and Charles were fighting another time.
Whereas Carlos was going to overtake Max, his power unit blow up, but like literally. The back of the car was on fire but Carlos couldn't step out because it was rolling back on the track.
The stewards took several seconds to come help him to get out of the car.
And on the last few laps, Charles had had issues with his throttle, it continued to accelerate but he managed to stay in front of the Dutch man.
We finished with a podium Charles - Max - Lewis.

Drivers' review
- Carlos Sainz Jr : a really good weekend from the Spanish driver. Without his engine blowing up, he would have been on the podium. He had a really good pace every days.
- Lando Norris : even if it was difficult for him on Friday due to brakes issues, he managed to have a good result at the end of Sunday and to return home with some good points. µ
- Mick Schumacher : what a result for Mick ! Even if he hadn't really have good quali, on Saturday and Sunday, he did some really good races with amazing fight. He kept Lewis behind him several laps in the sprint race. He was the driver of the day and really deserved it !
- Lewis Hamilton : he is back. Happy to see him back at the front. More I see him race, more I'm behind him because he deserves it. It wasn't cool to see him struggle with the Mercedes. Even if he was stuck behind Mick a few laps on Saturday, he finished once again on the podium on Sunday.
